Celtics rookie point guard Demetrius Jackson recently switched to No. 9, and he certainly hasn’t forgotten who last wore that number in Boston.

Jackson tweeted his regard for Rajon Rondo Tuesday night, signalling both an homage to the former All-Star and an acknowledgement of the Celtics legacy he will seek to continue. Jackson was selected in the 2nd round of the 2016 NBA draft, and recently signed a 4-year $5.5 million deal with the team.

He’ll be competing with incumbents Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart, and Terry Rozier for minutes in Brad Stevens’s point guard rotation this season. The Notre Dame standout will have his work cut out for him with such a loaded talent pool.

Jackson also took part in the NBA’s rookie photo shoot, along with Jaylen Brown.
