TRICHY: The Perambalur district court on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against DMDK president Vijayakanth for failing to appear before it in connection with a defamation case against him.
Public prosecutor K Kulothungan filed the case against the DMDK leader for his alleged derogatory speech against Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa at a public meeting in Perambalur on August 14, 2012.
Principal district judge A Nazeema Banu ordered the arrest warrant after neither Vijayakanth nor his counsel appeared in the court for hearing.
Meanwhile, the Madras high court on Wednesday
stayed 14 defamation cases against Vijayakanth.
