MARGAO: The
Margao Kadamba Transport Corporation (
KTC) bus stand witnessed long queues and heightened tempers on Tuesday.
Over 70 commuters travelling by the shuttle service were stranded at the bus stand for over half an hour due to the non-availability of buses along the
Margao-Panaji route.
Angry scenes erupted at the bus stand as several commuters were forced to wait for shuttle buses plying to
Panaji.
A local woman from
Margao started yelling at officials, saying, "I have to reach the court on time. Where are all the buses gone?"
Long queues are a common sight at the bus stand but Tuesday morning was particularly bad. School students were most agitated as they feared they would miss their classes. Some commuters rushed to the ticket counter and started arguing with officials.
KTC traffic officer on special duty S L Ghate appeared unaware of the inconvenient situation faced by citizens. He said that he would inquire into the matter.
Another commuter insisted that officials initiate some action. He said, "Call the conductors, get other buses. We do not have time to waste waiting for the next bus to arrive."
KTC chairman
J L Carlos Almeida said, "I will personally visit the
Margao KTC bus stand after August 15 and I apologize for the inconvenience caused to people."
