JAMMU, Aug 9: Seeking reorganization of J&K Road Transport Corporation and its conversion  into GTU besides release of pending arrears of the workers, All J&K SRTC Employees  Union has stressed upon the Government to regularize all the temporary/ contractual staff members who have completed more than eight years of service.
Addressing a press conference here today, Chairman of the Union Raja Muneer Ahmed and president Deedar Singh said that during Shri Amarnath Yatra and turmoil in Kashmir SRTC buses fleet carried its operation day and night and they are still doing it.  On the special request of Government and Management, the staff worked during the night hours as well. Many vehicles were damaged by the miscreants in Kashmir and some drivers were also injured but they ensured full support and cooperation during Yatra to the Government.  Not only now,  during the period of any crisis, the staff always cooperated. But unfortunately, when the Union projects workers’ issues, the Government pulls its  feet back. They ignore the SRTC workers. This attitude of neglect  creates lot of hurt burns among the workers, they added.
The Union leaders further pointed out that  temporary staff was assured to be regularized after eight years of service  by the Government but many of them have been serving for the last 12 to 13 years. But the  Govt is delaying their regularization. The arrears of  6th Pay Commission  and COLA of the SRTC workers were still pending.  No support is being provided to the Corporation by the Govt. Fleet is in poor condition and no new buses/ trucks are being purchased despite claims of the previous and the sitting Transport Minister.
Union spokesman, Amrik Singh Sasan said that the  Government must go for the reorganization of the J&K SRTC and it should be converted into Govt  Transport Undertaking as existed between 1976 and 1979.    He said welfare measures for the  employees should be taken and their all the pending demands be addressed without any delay. If the Management/ Govt failed to address the long pending genuine issues of the employees, they will be left with the only option to launch indefinite strike.
