The surgery was critical as the cyst was attached to vital organs including the heart and lungs, besides some major blood vessels.
Lucknow: A team of doctors at King George's Medical University (KGMU) operated upon a four-year-old boy to rid him of a tumour.
Addressing reporters here on Monday, team leader and paediatric surgeon, Dr Jiledar Rawat said, "The tumour weighed 2.5kg and had its roots in the kidney, spleen and small intestine. The tumour was causing abdominal discomfort to Rishabh, when he was brought to us."
Rishabh's father, Rahul, said that the boy often complained of pain in his stomach and was treated by doctors in Haidergarh area of Barabanki, where the family lives.
On August 3, Rishabh was operated upon and is now stable. "What makes our effort remarkable is that damage to surrounding organs has been prevented," Dr Rawat said, adding that his team included Dr Sudhir Singh, Dr Digamber Chaubey, Dr Anita Malik and Dr Vinita Singh, besides sister Vandana.
