Industry bodies want MCG out of Udyog Vihar
Gurgaon: The Industrial associations from Udyog Vihar have reached out to the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar requesting him to exclude Udyog Vihar from MCG jurisdiction to save them from the burden and hassle of paying property taxes.
According to the industrialists, paying maintenance charges to HSIIDC and property tax to MCG is a burden on the industries specially the smaller units.

“We pay HSIIDC for the maintenance of the area which does the main work in the area, however we also pay property tax to MCG which hardly contributes to the maintenance of the area,” said Praveen yadav, president Gurgaon Udyog Association.
There are provisions under the Haryana Municipal Corporation act which allows for the exclusion of industrial areas from corporation jurisdiction.
He said that they have spoken to the chief minster on 1 August during a meeting in the presence of the MCG commissioner. The industrialists have also given a written complaint to the chief minister in the same regard.
However the issue is not restricted to the dual burden, the process of payment of property taxes also becomes an issue for the industrialists.
“The property taxes are filed on the basis of self-assessment, even after paying that, MCG raises demand for further amount. When asked for explanations, there are none and the entrepreneur ends up running pillar to post figuring out the amount of property tax,” said Col. Singhla, president Chambers of Industry, Udyog Vihar.

The matter of dual charges has been a bone of contention between the industrialists and the state government. Earlier in 2014, the industry had decided to end the confusion due to dual taxation and pay MCG instead of HSIIDC as the tax rates for MCG were lower.
However over the last two years, the industry has faced several issues in dealing with the corporation and hence now wants to be excluded from their jurisdiction. They are now ready to pay a premium to HSIIDC for the maintenance of the area.
Most units and industries are not even happy with MCG’s work in the industrial estate.
" This is a policy matter, if the state government is ok for the exclusion, MCG will abide by it," said T.L. Satyaprakash, Commissioner, MCG.
