Embarking on an exciting journey

The first year BE and BArch Fresher’s Day function at M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology was held recently.

    The chief guest was Anurag Kumar, director, Indian Institute of Science.
Principal of MSRIT Dr N V R Naidu welcomed the gathering and the dignitaries.
He congratulated the new students and their parents for choosing to study at the college.

M R Seetharam, vice-chairman, GEF, and director MSRIT, Minister for Planning, Statistics, Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, promised the students that MSRIT would provide all the necessary facilities to excel both in academics and extra-curricular activities.

Anurag Kumar explained the difference between being a scientist and an engineer and then stressed on seven important lessons which would be useful in the journey of life.

He described it as — no substitute for hard work, follow your own dreams, make
exercise a part of your routine, value your relationships more than your ego, listen and do not try to force your point, learn from your mistakes and do not repeat them and adopt the practice of responsibility, initiative, ownership and thoroughness (RIOT).

He then wished the students success during their time in the college.
Guest of honour Alok Kumar Mehta, an alumni of MSRIT, Minister for Cooperative Department, Government of Bihar, shared his
personal experiences at MSRIT and thanked the management for giving him an
opportunity to address the new entrants.

He advised the students to work with zeal to achieve their individual goals.  
S M Acharya, chief executive, GEF, congratulated the students for their hard work which enabled them to get admitted to the institute. He stressed that students should be more disciplined and exhibit enormous enthusiasm in learning.

He also advised parents to cooperate in disciplining students so that they develop self-confidence and self-realisation.

M R Jayaram, chairman, GEF Foundation, addressed the gathering and motivated the students to follow the principles of discipline, good morals and commitment towards learning and to not forget their teachers and parents.

He also advised students to be innovative and make the world a better place to live. He said that knowledge gained should be put into practice and applied which, in turn, will make the country and society prosperous. 

The function concluded with a vote of thanks by T V Suresh Kumar, registrar
(Academic).
