Ex-BNMU officials back students’ stir, pro-VC shown black flags
Saharsa: The student agitation which began with fast-unto-death by Harshvardhan singh Rathod and NSUI’s Manish Kumar nine days back took a dramatic turn on Monday when students belonging to various organizations showed black flags to pro-VC J P N Jha of B N Mandal University and shouted slogans against the university administration.
Monday also saw some retired teachers and ex-officers of the university visting the venue of the hunger strike and openly supporting the demands.
Former VC Jai Krishna Prasad Yadav, former pro-VC K K Mandal, former registrar Sachindra Mehto and former controller of examinations Bhupendra Madhepuri were among those who criticised the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the university authorities and appealed to them to reach an amicable settlement with the students.
As soon as the pro-VC in his official car reached M L T College at Saharsa to inaugurate a cafeteria on the college campus on Monday, the students surrounded the pro-VC and started shouting slogans against him. In the meantime, some students showed blacks flag to the pro-VC.
District NSUI president Sudip Kumar Suman told newsmen their agitation was originally aimed at protesting against the alleged irregularities in the BEd admission test conducted at various colleges of the university. Later, the examinations were disrupted and classes suspended in the colleges and university departments.
The students have threatened to intensify their agitation if the university authorities failed to concede their demands.
