Water scarcity continues to be a major problem to the people living in the western district of Ntoroko.

Ntoroko which is predominantly dominated by the cattle keeping community has only two water bodies that include River Semuliki and Lake Albert.

Whereas the area is badly hit by floods during the October rains, the water dries up within a very short time.

Anna Mary Tumwine the district woman Member of Parliament says that the area has for the past four months been worst hit by drought.

"We have registered cases where a number of cows have died, more so the water table has reduced. Most of the boreholes are not functional" Tumwine said.

She says that the most affected areas are the sub counties of Nombe, Karugutu, Butungama, Bweramule, Kanara and Rwebisengo.

"The people of Rwebisengo are suffering. It takes at least an hour to fill a jerry can at a borehole and to make it worse you find a long cue of people " she added.

She explains that this has greatly affected children of school going age as much of the time is wasted on fetching water.
