Govt eyes speedier financing for Tebing Tinggi toll road

he government is looking to finalize the financing of the Tebing Tinggi-Kisaran toll road, which is costing Rp 8.7 trillion (US$661 million).
The 60-kilometer-long toll road is part of the trans-Sumatra highway project, which is targeted for completion in 2019 and is one of the government's 30 priority infrastructure projects.
“Of the eight priority routes on the trans-Sumatra, only Tebing Tinggi-Kisaran hasn't begun yet. By finishing the financial structure, we hope the groundbreaking can be carried out in 2017,” Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) chief Herry Trisaputra Zuna told thejakartapost.com during a The Jakarta Post event entitled "Accelerating Infrastructure Development" on Monday.
The route is deemed important as it will connect Kuala Namu International Airport and Kuala Tanjung Port with the nearby Sei Mangkei industrial complex.
According to Priority Infrastructure Development Acceleration Committe (KPPIP) project director Henry Toruan, the development of Kuala Tanjung Port has been delayed because of poor connectivity.
“Kuala Tanjung is supposed to be the biggest international transit port in Sumatra, but the access is still poor,” Henry said. (ags)
