Here's why Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu's Pink is very RELEVANT in these times where a girl is finding her voice!

The trailer of Pink starts off with Amitabh Bachchan asking Taapsee Pannu's character in court, whether she is a virgin. On face of it, it is just a very usual question these days. However the horrific expression on Taapsee's face is enough to hint that the answer to that question will make everyone judge her. A couple of years ago, actress and MP Khushboo faced outrage when she said that men shouldn't expect their brides to be virgin and that premarital sex is not a secret anymore. Though what she stated was quote the obvious, our moralists in the society just couldn't bear to hear the truth. Another incident that comes to my mind happened a few months ago, one of the rapists in the Nirbhaya case, I believe, had given an interview to some news channel. He claimed where he said his victim deserved to be raped because she was roaming around in the night.

A statement that caused enough outrage, but then it was uttered by the man who has heinously committed the crime of violating a woman's personal space. What else did we expect from such a man? Philosophical gems? However, the kind of statement that he gave out is not just restricted to all rapists of the world - it's a sentiment that has been echoed by nearly everyone in our patriarchal society. That a girl who roams around in the night, has men in her group of friends, boozes or smokes and is seen hanging around a guy, is, for a lack of a better word, a slut! And she deserves to be treated like that.

It also shows our society's double standards when if a guy who does all the same things, and he is called a stud! How many times have we heard our politicians and godmen blaming the victims in a rape case, saying they shouldn't be wearing jeans or shouldn't use mobile phones or even eat chowmein.

The basic funda is that it's always the girls who get the blame, even if they are violated without their consent. 'Cos they happened to be there at the wrong time and the wrong place to bring out the monster from inside the 'poor' men. Why should men get the blame? When have men ever taken blame?

So in these times, a film like Pink is most definitely welcome! The trailer is out, and it was definitely an eye-opener for me, as well as for everyone who has watched it. Nothing in there was superficial - it has been something that we have read, heard and even seen in our day to day lives.

The trailer shows how three single girls in a city is having a harrowing time because of their gender, their modern outlook and their social status. Just ask any single girl in the city how difficult it is to get a flat for rent, and you will know how true the trailer resounds.

Even when they get harassed by the men around them, people, including the keepers of our law, find reasons to blame them, because they are girls and they should have just shut up!

In an industry where a Deepika Padukone is being celebrated for getting nearly Rs 13 crores for her next film, it's strange that a film like Pink is made so rarely, even with it resonates with what Deepika, and Priyanka Chopra actually stands for about today's women!

Could Pink do to women exploitation what A Wednesday did to terrorism?

We don't know that...But we certainly welcome films like these, because that's what our nation wants these times! Even if they are currently enjoying the likes of Sultan and Dishoom...
