Actress Amrita Rao has successful films like Vivah, Main Hoon Na, Satyagraha and Welcome To Sajjanpur to her credit. The actress recently made her TV fiction debut as Kalyani in television show Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchan Hai.
In an interview with TimesofIndia.com about her role of Kalyani, Amrita said it was one of the finest experiences for her in acting.
"Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchan Hai is and will always be one of my finest experiences in acting.
I played such an illustrious role. It was so real that each day of my work was a challenge and had an emotional high point. This was one of the most illustrious roles offered to me and I did not have to convince myself to take up the role. It was an honour to play the role of India's nightingale."

But how did you handle the daily heavy shooting hours? "It was immensely difficult especially shooting indoors on real locations in the mid of May heat. Fans and coolers were turned off during takes to avoid dubbing dialogues later. I had to change almost six saris each day and I also did some stunts myself like coming in front of the hero's running car or falling into the swimming pool backwards accidentally. It seemed tough on some days but not as tough as what I have heard it is on a regular daily show set. I had many perks including ten hours of work every day in my contract as against the standard 12 hours."

Talking about the feedback of the audience Amrita adds, "People have seen a very strong woman in Kalyani Gaikwad, unlike my other characters in films which were soft and gentle. The role had strength. Kalyani could handle any situation. I think the best part about playing Kalyani was the recording studio portions where I had to sing as I also got to sing in my own voice for many scenes."
