Hindustani music maestro Pandit Viswa Mohan Bhatt is to be conferred ‘Nada Vidya Bharathi’ title by Visakha Music and Dance Academy at its annual festival of music, dance and drama.
Pandit Bhatt of Rajasthani Gharana, who has adapted the guitar to play Hindustani Classical music, will be conferred the title ‘Nada Vidya Bharathi’ by former director Kalakshetra and former chairperson Sangeet Natak Akademi Leela Samson on Saturday the first day of the seven-day festival of music, dance and drama, VMDA founder president C.S.N. Raju told the media here on Monday.
After receiving the title and felicitations, Pandit Bhatt will give a performance on his ‘Mohan Veena’ he would be accompanied by his son Salil Bhatt on Mohan Veena and Ram Kumar Mishra on Tabla, Mr Raju said.
On the second day disciples of Guru Bichitrananda Swain of Rudraksha Foundation of Bhubaneswar would present an Odissi dance which is a fusion of Yoga and Classical Odissi dance. Dwaram Lakshmi of Tirupati, scion of the legendary Dwaram family, would give a Carnatic concert on the third day. On the fourth day there will be Carnatic concert by Aishwarya Vidya Raghunadh of Bengaluru. Fifth day would feature Carnatic concert by a strong traditionalist N Vijay Siva. The sixth day would have Carnatic Mandolin concert by U Rajesh, brother of late U Srinivas. The seventh day would feature a traditional Telugu theatre drama – Bhakta Prahalada – which won the Golden Nandi.
For the convenience of the rasikas a season pass is available at Rs 300 for all the performances. Donor passes are available for each performance, VMDA trustee and honorary secretary GRK Prasad (Rambabu) said.
