Plant trees along road, residents urge authorities

Belagavi: Residents have urged the district administration to grant permission to dig the recently widened Khanapur road in the city limits to plant trees on either side. In a memorandum submitted to the district administration, the residents warned that if permission is not given, they will start digging pits for planting trees.
The residents argued that while cutting trees before taking up road widening work a few months ago, forest officials had promised to plant double the number of trees being cut.Now that the road widening work has been completed from Goa Ves to Peeranawadi Cross, the authorities have left no space for planting trees by asphalting the road from one end to another, the residents said.
