The Criminal Investigation Department on Monday recorded the statement of deceased Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K. Ganapathy’s wife and two sons in connection with the suicide of the officer in a lodge in Madikeri.

The CID team, led by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sonia Narang, visited Ganapathy’s flat on Bejai New Road around noon. The team recorded the statement of Ganapathy’s wife Pavana and sons Nihal and Sohil. The team was in the flat for nearly six hours.

It was on July 7 that Ganapathy, who worked in the office of the Inspector-General of Police (Western Range), hanged himself to death in the Madikeri lodge.

Before his suicide, Ganapathy had, in an interview to a local television channel, said that Minister K.J. George and Inspector-Generals of Police A.M. Prasad and Pranab Mohanty should be held responsible if something were to happen to him.

The State government directed the CID to investigate the case of suicide registered in Madikeri.

In view of a direction from the High Court of Karnataka, the CID will now investigate the complaint against Mr. George, Mr. Prasad and Mr. Mohanty.
