Now, swimming pool for kids at Lalbaug

VADODARA: The only public swimming pool for kids will be inaugurated in the city on Tuesday. It will come up at Lalbaug that already has a pool for adults.
A proposal to develop the swimming pool from the local area development funds of former Vadodara MP Balkrishna Shukla at a cost of Rs 26.87lakh was taken up by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) in 2013.
With other facilities for the pool, the civic body has spent Rs 40lakh on the project. The project includes a separate filtration plant, lockers and showers for the babies. The area around the pool has also been paved.
The swimming pools project had faced hiccup initially with VMC inviting bids, but receiving no response from contractors. Direct offers were eventually invited and a contractor was zeroed down, but at a higher rate than the estimates prepared by the civic body.
VMC so far had four swimming pools. These include the pools for adults at Lalbaug, Sardarbaug, Rajiv Gandhi swimming pool on Waghodiya Road and one at the Sama indoor sports complex. The Lalbaug and Sardarbaug swimming pools witness the highest rush, particularly during summers.
