Gang of robbers held after gunfight in Ghaziabad
Ghaziabad: An inter-state gang of robbers was nabbed by Ghaziabad police following a gunfight in the Sahibabad area during the wee hours of Monday. A cop and one of the three robbers who have been arrested sustained injuries in the gunfight that was triggered after the trio opened fire on the police.
The incident took place around 2:30 am near Koel Enclave.
A team of seven cops nabbed the trio, who were riding a motorcycle, following a tip-off. The three robbers are in their late-20s and have been identified as Saheen, Rubel and Ashu. Police are on the lookout for their gang leader Rashid as well as another accomplice identified as Balli.
According to the police, the gang operated in Delhi-NCR. They attacked their victims with weapons if they faced resistance during the robbery or loot attempts.
The police have recovered two .315 bore country-made revolvers from the trio apart from the motorcycle that has a UP registration number. Cash and jewellery, which the gang confessed to have looted from a house in Bhopura two days ago, have also been recovered.
A total of six rounds were fired from either side during the incident.
“Saheen, one of the accused, sustained a bullet injury on his left knee and was rushed to MMG Hospital where his condition is said to be out of danger. A bullet grazed the right hand of police constable Pankaj Kumar during the gunfight. He was discharged after treatment,” said additional superintendent of police Ashish Srivastava.
Four different cases pertaining to loot and illegal possession of arms had been registered in Sahibabad police station this year in which cops suspected the involvement of the arrested gang members.
