A poster of Bollywood royalty Aishwarya Rai promoting a Longines watch has fallen foul of the local council in Kelantan, an east coast state in peninsular Malaysia, according to reports on Monday 8 August.

The Kota Baru Municpal Council has fined the watch shop for displaying 'sexy' posters, which included that of the actress. The Swee Cheong Watch & Pen Co has also been ordered to take down the posters.

The other posters also showed other models. The outfits worn by the models were found to be too sexy by the council.

Lee Kum Chuan, the shop owner, complained that the posters were supplied by the manufacturers of the watches. That excuse however failed to budge the council as the posters, according to the council's terms for issuing business permits, shop owners are not allowed to display sexy photographs at their shops, reported The Star.

Lee runs three shops in Kelantan— one in Aeon Mall and two other in KB Mall and Tesco in Kota Baru. He was slapped with a total of RM2,000 (£380) in fines but this amount was subsequently reduced to RM400 (£76).
