Friendship marathon on Indo-Nepal border

PITHORAGARH: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) organised a half marathon race with Nepalese security personnel on the Banbasa border in Champawat district on the occasion of International Friendship Day yesterday.

The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) organised a half marathon race with Nepalese security personnel on the Banbasa border in Champawat district on the occasion of International Friendship Day yesterday. The event aimed at creating an atmosphere of brotherhood. In the men’s category, India’s Kalidas Laxman of Maharashtra stood first. Kanchi Maya Kozu from Nepal won in the women’s category.

The SSB said the event witnessed participation by 911 runners, including 726 from India and 185 from Nepal. It would help in creating a friendly atmosphere among people residing in the border areas of both the sides.

SSB DIG Shyam Singh said winners were awarded a sum of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively. — OC
