The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD, Progressive) will contest all 11 Assembly seats in the district and will have no alliance with the UKD (Airy), said party media secretary Uday Ram Semwal here today. He held talks with party workers on preparations for the election.

UKD (P) president Trivendra Singh Pawar will be the star campaigner of the party. He will visit all 13 districts to campaign for the party candidates.

Semwal said, “Trivendra Singh Pawar, a statehood agitator and an able leader, is well known among the people of the state. Under his leadership, the UKD didn’t lose its base whereas Diwakar Bhatt, who had formed UKD (D), joined hands with the BJP, and Kashi Singh Airy (UKD, A) with the Congress. Preetam Singh Pawar (UKD, A), a Cabinet minister from the UKD quota, also seems to have forgotten his party and is more of a Congress minister than UKD.”

Semwal said alarming migration level in hills, failure of respective governments to usher in development, health and educational facilities in hill districts and measures to lessen natural disaster impact will be the party’s main agenda. Core issues, like Gairsain as permanent capital, better facilities for agriculture and horticulture, and all weather road connectivity to all the districts will also be the party’s poll agenda.

Lashing at the Congress and the BJP for “affecting” the state’s development, he said since March when nine Congress MLAs revolted, the state has seen a new low in politics.
