Hearts have signed Polish defender Krystian Nowak on a two-year contract.
Head coach Robbie Neilson has handed the 22-year-old trialist a permanent deal after Jordan McGhee last month left for Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.
Nowak is a former Poland youth international who played 21 league games last season for Pdobeskidzie Bielsko-Biala in his home country's second division.
Neilson told the Hearts website: "I'm very pleased to welcome Krystian to the club.
"I've had the opportunity to watch him in training and it's safe to say I have been very impressed by what I've seen from him.
"It was important to strengthen defensively following Jordan McGhee's loan move and I feel Krystian will be a quality addition to the squad."
The deal is subject to international clearance.
