Kalaburagi: The waterfalls along Karnataka-Telangana border has turned a picnic spot, thanks to good rain in the recent past. The stream flows from Telangana forest towards Kunchavaram forest in Chincholi taluk in the district before joining Chandrampalli reservoir, which comes under the minor irrigation department.
Watching the turbulent water falling from a height of 15 metre near Sangapur tanda is a visual delight, and people from Bidar, Kalaburagi and Jaheerabad in Telangana state are making the most of the season.
The falls, named 'Etti Potha' (falling from height), will be in full flow till November.
A 10-member family from Zaheerabad in Talangana took in the beauty of the waterfalls recently. Ramesh, head of the family, told TOI that they had never imagined a waterfall in their backyard "could be so beautiful". We enjoyed every moment of the four hours we spent here, he added.
Ramesh's family, like others, had come with food prepared from their home. They all dined together, catching the view of the waterfalls. Pointing at the empty liquor bottles strewn around the place, Ramesh expressed concerns over the place turning a haven for drunkards. "It's time drinking is discouraged here," he added.
Rajashekhar, another visitor from Tandoor in Telangana, said that he had visited the waterfalls during monsoon in 2014. "The prospective tourist spot has been neglected by the Karnataka forest department. The roads leading to the waterfalls is not good. People have to walk for 2km to reach the place," he added.
The waterfalls is ensconced inside the reserve forest, which was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 2010. Deploying a security guard to check any untoward incident is the need of the hour, according to the tourists.
