Rivers in Navsari and Valsad districts are flowing bank to bank subsequent to rainfall up to 144mm in Dang district and 95mm in Vasda taluka of Navsari in the past 24 hours.

SURAT: Rivers in Navsari and Valsad districts are flowing bank to bank subsequent to rainfall up to 144mm in Dang district and 95mm in Vasda taluka of Navsari in the past 24 hours. This has lifted the spirits of farmers as it bodes well for paddy and sugarcane cultivation in Navsari district. Navsari district has 66,000 acres of area under paddy cultivation.
District collector Ravi Arora said, "This rain is helping a lot of crops. Groundwater has gone as deep as 30 feet into the earth. Majority of lakes and small dams are filled up." Keliya dam over Kaveri river is filled up to 113.55 metre as against its capacity of 115.25 metre. Juj dam is filled up to 167.65 metre as against its capacity of 171.50 metre.
