Unnao: Congress party's chief ministerial face for 2017 assembly polls Sheila Dikshit on Sunday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his foreign tours saying they did not benefit the country in any way.
"Our Prime Minister visits foreign countries only to remain in news. The country has gained nothing from his tours of the last two years", Dikshit said while inaugurating Congress Sewa Dal workers' training camp held at Puran Nagar area in Unnao on Sunday.
She said that promises and announcements of 'achche din' (good days) made by Modi to the people have remained unfulfilled.
The former Delhi chief minister while slamming her political opponents for calling her an 'outsider', clarified that she was born in Punjab, brought up in Delhi and Unnao is her 'sasural' . My father-in-law Uma Shankar Dikshit was a senior Congress leader of UP and my husband had worked in UP government as a senior IAS officer. And, it were the people of Kannauj, who had sent me to Parliament for the first time in 1981" Dikshit said.
Talking about her party's slogan "27 saal, UP behaal" ", she said that the slogan has a big impact as the condition of the largest state is really pathetic.
"The state, considered as the biggest state of the country, has given several Prime Ministers, but as far as development, jobs, infrastructure and facilities to the farmers and the power supply are concerned, what type of development had taken place here in the last 27 years", she questioned. On law and order situation of the state, Dikshit attacked chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for failing to check spiralling crime graph of UP.
While highlighting her achievements as CM of Delhi, she said, "In 1999, Delhi had the same problems which are being faced by people of UP face at present. I had solved majority of problems of Delhi related with roads, hospitals, universities, electricity, or the launch of Metro etc. I have come here with the same dream and the same vision".
