Jats meet to discuss next step in fight for quota

The Sarv Khap Panchayat of Haryana organized a meeting at Jat Dharamshala in Kurukshetra on Sunday to discuss issue of reservation to Jats and withdrawal of FIRs registered against youths belonging to the community.

CHANDIGARH: The Sarv Khap Panchayat of Haryana organized a meeting at Jat Dharamshala in Kurukshetra on Sunday to discuss issue of reservation to Jats and withdrawal of FIRs registered against youths belonging to the community. The meeting was largely attended by the leaders of various khaps of the community from across the state.
The leaders also opposed the appointment of an administrator by the Haryana government to run the management of Jat Dharamshala in Kuruskhetra, the largest dharamshala of the community in the state.

While giving details of meeting, spokesperson of Sarv Khap Panchayat Sube Singh Samain said the issue of getting the reservation through some other legal method in consultation with the state government and demand withdrawing criminal cases registered against the youngsters during last reservation agitation in February was discussed.
He said most of the speakers accused the state government of betraying its promise to withdraw all cases against the members of community. Sube said that a meeting was called on August 14 at Kohl village near Gohana in Sonipat district, in which detailed planning for the proposed agitation from September 13 would be discussed. Some financial help would also be distributed to the families of Jat community members who had lost their lives during February agitation.
Some speakers also demanded OBC quota for Jats in central government jobs. Prominent among those who addressed the gathering were: Dharampal Chhaut, Nafe Singh Nain, Zile Singh Dhull, Surender Dahiya, Captain Chandi Ram, Mahender Singh Nandal, and Satvir Pahlwan.
The organizers of the meeting also said that Sunday meeting was part of series of meetings organized by Sarv Khap Panchayat to visit different places of the state and strategize for the next phase of the agitation.
