New social network 'Hello' launched by creators of Orkut, connects you with your passion

The word ‘Orkut’ itself brings so many memories back. The  social networking website which connected people across the globe was going strong with a community of 300 million users, until it was recently shuttered. ‘Orkut’ was founded in 2004 by Orkut Büyükkökten with Githin Jose.

The founder in his blog introduces Hello as a new social network which is “built on loves, not likes”. Hello is designed “to help you connect with people who share your passions”, Orkut Büyükkökten wrote.

Google and creators Büyükkökten and Jose of Orkut will always be the biggest influences in shaping the face of social media and networking. The new app based social network ‘Hello’ comes in a time when social network landscapes is hugely dominated by Facebook. The app limits itself only to the contacts in your phone book to find friends. The first time you sign up on the app, you will be asked to select five ‘personas’ based on your interest. It can be dancing, acting, writing, skiing, scuba diving, and various other interests. These can be later on swapped with new interests in your due course of networking on Hello.

The application is very visual since image-based posts are only allowed. Text-based posts are not permitted. It can be said Hello lies somewhere between Facebook and Pinterest. The app is still to be released in India by the end of August 2016. For now, the app is available on iOS and Android  in Canada, United States, France, the United Kingdom, Australia.
