KUCHING: The track events for the 18th Malaysian Paralympic Games witnessed the home team claim one silver and two bronzes today.
State athlete Mawar Numpang grabbed a silver medal in the men’s 100 metres T43/44 (Amputee/Les Autres) category with a record of 16.46 seconds, while the gold medal went to Sabah’s Saiful Dawang with 14.58 seconds.
In the men’s 100 metres T13 (visually impaired) category, the state contingent represented by D’Carlos Maclin Daes won a bronze with a record of 12.93 seconds, after he was defeated by Johor’s Ahmad Mustaqim Taib who claimed gold and Sabah’s Retchievana Tabisun silver with 12.70 and 12.90, respectively.
Meanwhile, Filemon Lirong Dionisus received the second bronze for Sarawak in 100 metres T12 (visually impaired) category with a record of 12.24. Mohd Faizal Aideal Suhaimi (11.66 seconds) from Kedah, and Muhamad Afiq Md Ali Hanafiah (11.80) from Johor were first and second runners-up.
The second day of the field events for this year’s edition of the games also saw the home team enter a total of 14 events from 21 finals.
