PMK, MDMK call for all-party meet to solve Palar dam issue
VELLORE: Leaders of PMK and MDMK have demanded that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa lead a team comprising representatives of all political parties to meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore the riparian rights of the state as regards Palar issue.
While the PMK staged a demonstration led by its youth wing president Anbumani Ramadoss opposite to Vellore collectorate on Saturday, MDMK leader Vaiko visited the check dam at Perumpallam in Kangundi panchayat of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh.

Anbumani condemned the AP government for violating the riparian rights of Tamil Nadu by constructing new check dams and raising the height of the existing check dams across Palar and its tributaries.
He said the state government should call for an all party meeting to explore the possibilities of resolving the Palar issue. "The CM should constitute a team to meet the PM and also her AP counterpart Chandrababu Naidu," said Anbumani.
Cautioning the TN, AP and central governments to resolve the issue before it snowballed into a law and order issue between the two neihgbouring states, he said, "We will not hold a peaceful demonstration like this next time." He said that he would meet the Modi and Union minister Uma Bharathy regarding the issue.
AIADMK has 50 MPs in both houses of parliament. But they failed to raise the issue to create a political pressure against the AP government, he said.
He claimed that the AP government had taken up works to construct check dams across the tributaries of Palar in seven places, apart from raising the height of five check dams across Palar in Kuppam Mandal. The construction works have been taken up violating the Mysore-Madras Agreement of 1892 and the SC, where a case was pending, he said.
