The Pacific teams’ presence and jovial mood during the flag bearer’s announcement event meant a lot to the officials of the host nation.

Event manager, Anna Surani made a special request if the Pacific teams lay hands on the canoes to pray and seek for heavenly blessings.

Speaking to SUNsports on Thursday Surani was emotional and admitted that the event was part of God’s plan.

“I organised this event and this is the first time for me to get to know the Oceania culture and when I asked them to pray for these canoes I just got goose bumps from the beginning to the end,” she said.

“The blessings and what they bring to us is something that we will never forget. Thank God that they came over and they are here with us, thank God for the Olympics. We have gone through a lot but to have our Pacific brothers and sisters here is a huge blessings to us.”
