Burhan Wani’s father leads protest in Kashmir, offers daughter to fight against Indian occupation

Muzaffar Wani attracted thousands of protesters to Khrew who turned up despite the curfew imposed in South Kashmir and a call by Hurriyat leaders to march to Hazratbal, Srinagar.

New Delhi, August 7: During a rally in Pampore, Kashmir, father of slain Hizbul Mujahiddin Commander Burhan Wani said that he was ready to offer his only daughter to the struggle against the Indian occupation of Kashmir. Having sacrificed two sons, Muzaffar Wani told protesters that his daughter would now fight for their cause. There is an increasing support for senior Wani in the Valley among those protesting against the Indian security forces.

Leading a procession, Wani attracted thousands of protesters to Khrew who turned up despite the curfew imposed in South Kashmir and a call by Hurriyat leaders to march to Hazratbal, Srinagar, The Times of India reported. Speaking to witnesses, the newspaper added that a “Dargah Chalo” call given by a group of separatist leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik received a poor response from protesters.

Wani arrived at Khrew in an SUV, escorted by the armed militants. One of them even addressed the gathering, and asked people not pelt stones since it would further fuel the unrest, leading to more violence and killings.

Hurriyat leaders gave the “Dargah Chalo” call in response to the protest call given by Wani’s supporters on July 31, during a protest attended by nearly 50,000 people. The protest was organised by the Hurriyat leaders at a graveyard in Kareemabad, and attended by Muzaffar Wani.
