Jared Leto ‘Annoyed’ By Joker Cuts In ‘Suicide Squad’?

Jared Leto clearly wasn’t too happy with the cuts made to his role in Suicide Squad. While the Oscar-winning actor didn’t come out and make these remarks explicitly, he teased his displeasure.

WARNING: There are a few mild spoilers ahead for Suicide Squad. So if you’re yet to watch the DC blockbuster then you probably shouldn’t read ahead.

It’s safe to say that those of you who went into Suicide Squad expecting to see plenty of Jared Leto as The Joker were a little disappointed. Not only have critics rounded on the film for being all over the place, but the Joker hardly even appears in the blockbuster.

In fact, after his helicopter crashes, the Joker doesn’t appear in the final act. This led IGN to ask Jared Leto what he believed happened to the Joker during this period, which they asked during their discussion with the actor to promote Suicide Squad.

“That’s a good question. I have no idea,” Jared Leto admitted. “I think he probably went and had a drink or something. Stretched — once you get blown up in a helicopter your muscles get a little tight.”

Leto was then asked whether or not he was angry that his scenes in Suicide Squad were cut. And while Leto didn’t come out and reveal his outright disappointment at the edits made to his performance in the film, he was obviously a little miffed.

“Were there any that didn’t get? I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start,” Leto insisted. “I think that the Joker… we did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot. There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film.”

Jared Leto doesn’t expect the disregarded footage of him as the Joker to emerge any time soon, though. In fact, he believes that it will only appear when he has moved off this mortal coil.

“If I die anytime soon, it’s probably likely that it’ll surface somewhere,” Leto added. “That’s the good news about the death of an actor is all that stuff seems to come out.”

Despite these problems, Jared Leto has also admitted during his promotion for Suicide Squad that he hopes this is only his beginning as the character. While talking to the Toronto Sun, Leto insisted that he could easily play the legendary villain for decades to come over several more films.

“I hope it’s an introduction [to the Joker] and not the end! Because I could easily just play the Joker a couple more times and then retire. Because it’s so fulfilling and so creative and it’s so imaginative. It’s really difficult to think about doing anything else!”

But what does he have in mind? Well, rather obviously, Jared Leto wants the chance to go up against Ben Affleck’s Batman in a solo film. Affleck’s Batman actually appeared in Suicide Squad, but it was only for a brief scene opposite Leto’s Joker. Leto insisted that this was only the beginning.

“I think it would be incredible to see Batman and the Joker go head to head! This Batman and this Joker. I mean, I don’t know, that might be too much! But that would be fun.”
