The Cambridge University Brass Ensemble (CUBE) returns to the Painted Church once again for a Sunday lunchtime recital in a varied programme for all.
Dhrupad Recital with Pandit Uday Bhawalkar

Dhrupad is the oldest existing form of Indian classical music, said to trace its roots back thousands of years. This style of singing is characterised by deeply meditative improvisations in melody and rhythm, with its goal being not to entertain but rather to induce a feeling of sublime peace.
The Dhrupad Music Society together with the Cambridge University Indian Classical Arts Society (CUICAS) are proud and incredibly excited to say that Pandit Uday Bhawalkar, a pre-eminent vocalist in the Dhrupad style, is coming to Cambridge for a recital! He learned Dhrupad from Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiduddin Dagar in the esteemed Dagarvani tradition. Pandit Uday Bhawalkar will be accompanied by Sri Pratap Awad on the Pakhawaj, who learned from Pandit Subhash Maharaj Deshmukh, Pandit Uddhav Aapegaonkar and Pandit Vasantrao Ghorpadkar.
The recital will take place at the Memorial Unitarian Church at 3:00 PM on the 7th of August. Entry is free of charge, but after the recital any donations would be greatly appreciated (recommended donation is £10). Seating is limited to 90 people, so come a bit early to get a spot!
