Srirastu Subhamastu movie review: Good hints of of Bommarillu and DDLJ

Allu Sirish, the younger son of top producer Allu Aravind, has teamed up with director Parasuram for Srirastu Subhamastu. Sirish (Allu Sirish) is the son of a rich businessman (Prakash Raj). While on a business trip to Kashmir, he sees Anu (Lavanya), an Engineering student from Vizag, and falls in love with her. His father, however, is against the marriage as he has a very low opinion about middle-class mindsets and feels that girls from such families are only after money. Sirish tells his father that he will approach Anu as a normal man and won’t tell her about his family background. If he wins her over, his father has to agree to their marriage. If not, he will marry the girl of his father’s choice.
Sirish thus shifts to Vizag and tries to woo Anu. When Anu too is about to express her love to Sirish, her father (Rao Ramesh) fixes her marriage with his close friend’s (Bharani) son. How Sirish wins the day is the crux of the story. Director Parasuram has taken a regular story of a rich kid and a middle-class girl falling in love and how the boy impresses the parents of the girl. There have been many such films, like Nuvvu Naku Nachav, Chirunavvutho and even the recent Nenu Sailaja. Even the director’s earlier film, Solo, had a similar backdrop.
Parasuram, however, is strong in writing and he shows his strength in the dialogues. Though the story is old, he packages it well with his dialogues and the entertainment factor.
However, the momentum picks up only in the second half thanks to a good dose of comedy by Ali and the emotional scenes of Rao Ramesh, Lavanya Tripathi and Sirish. Some scenes, however, resemble the hit film Bommarillu. When it comes to performance, Sirish has undergone a complete makeover. But he has to work harder on his performance, especially emotions. While he is better than his two earlier films, he still has a long way to go. This is Lavanya Tripathi’s best performance and she completely justifies her character. Rao Ramesh once again steals the show with his stunning performance. It seems that Tollywood writers have now found Rao Ramesh’s talent and he never disappoints.
The scene in which he tells Sirish about the outlook of middle-class fathers and their daughters is the best scene of the film. Meanwhile, it’s a cakewalk for Prakash Raj and he elevates the scenes with his presence. While Bharani, Sumalatha and Pragathi have provided ample support, it’s comedian Ali who has struck gold after a long time. His scenes with Subbaraju and Sirish are hilarious. Technically, the cinematography is good though Thaman’s music is average. To sum up, Srirastu Subhamastu is a routine story with some regular scenes, but it is a decent effort from the director. The second half is entertaining and the pre-climax is good.
