Manali, August 5

Governor Acharya Devvrat flagged off a para cycling expedition from Manali to Khardung La here today.

The expedition will culminate at 18,380 ft high Khardung La on August 15, where Union Minister of State for Home affairs Kiren Rijiju will welcome the participants.

As many as 34 participants, including 13 from the BSF, three from the CRPF and 18 from the Aditya Mehta Foundation, are taking part in this expedition.

RK Negi, Commandant, BSF, Institute of Adventure and Advance Training (BIAAT), is leading the expedition, which will cover a distance of 583 km over the 13,050-ft-high Rohtang Pass, Baralacha Pass, Lachulung La, Tanglang La and Khardung La.

Acharya Devvrat congratulated the BSF and the foundation for starting such adventure and social awareness programmes. Rajni Kant Mishra, Additional Director General (HR) BSF, welcomed the chief guest.

The BSF have dedicated 2016 as “Divyaang Yodha Varsh” with the aim at encouraging psychological empowerment to disabled persons. The BSF has planned a detailed “Divyaang Yodha” skill programmes with a series of activities for this year.
