PUDUCHERRY 'S OWN RAJINIKANTH

The whole of last month Tamil Nadu and its neighbouring Union Territory was exulting in Kabali fever. Puducherry even wants to rope in the superstar Rajinikanth as its brand ambassador. But the former CM decided to become Kabali instead. And like Rajini in the movie says, 'Thirumbi vandutten nu sollu' meaning I have come back! People in Puducherry are wondering whether this is indeed Rangaswamy's comback avatar.

"Rangaswamy is also a superstar, he is a very humble person and we think he is our Rajinikanth," said Ramesh, an auto driver.

Rangaswamy, Puducherry's longest serving former Chief Minister turned 67 on August 4. "This time we have not put up so many posters and banners. We are sad that he is not the CM this time. We put up posters and banners only in his constituency," said a member in the party.

PREVIOUSLY A CHRIST, HANUMAN

"Earlier, for his birthday we have used various avatars including Jesus Christ, Lord Hanuman, Telugu film star Prabhas but this time we thought of Kabali as Rajini and those dialogues were apt for Rangaswamy sir," said a party cadre.

The banners in the city has morphed images of the former CM looking like Rajinikant in his latest movie Kabali and in one banner it is even writen 'Nerungada papom," meaning try getting close, a line from a song in Kabali.

Well, though AINRC party, which contested alone from all the 30 constituency in the last assembly polls, lost to Congress-DMK alliance, and managed to win just eight seats Rangaswamy's popularity still remains. One man even described his former CM as 'Rangaswamy da!' proudly pointing at the banner.
