Curtains came down on The Hindu In School Chess Competition organised in association with the Chess Association of Kerala, affiliated to the All India Chess Federation, at Udyan Convention and Exhibition Centre, Vennala, near here on Friday.
Adithya A. Chullikkad of Jeevass CMI Central School bagged the top prize in the sub junior category, with1,211 FIDE rating. Bright Lee M. Sunilkumar of St. Aloysius Convent School, Palluruthy, with FIDE rating 1,597, and Anjitha Krishnakumar of Rajagiri Higher Secondary School bagged the top rankings in junior boys’ and junior girls’ categories respectively.
Vinay Thomas Abraham of Rajagiri Higher Secondary School with a FIDE rating of 1,879 secured the top rank in the senior boys’ category while Bhagya Vinod of Choice School emerged top in the senior girls’ category.
T.R. Shamsudheen, chairman, Billabong High International School, Kochi; Gayathri Govind, Principal; and P.V.N Namboodiripad, a chess expert, gave away medal, certificates and trophies to the winners.
Thyrocare was the national sponsor of the competition and ‘Powered by Sponsor’ was Billabong High International School, Kochi. The regional gift sponsors were Club Mahindra and Indian Oil Corporation.
The other winners in order of their rankings are: sub junior category – Dyne Jimmy of Joe Mount Public School, Neo Binu of MGM Public School, Kakkanad, and Jayakrishnan P.M of Campion School.
Senior boys – Jyothi R, Nijai Giri of Holy Grace Academy, Anjith M, GHSS Perumbavur, Ashudev of MGM Higher Secondary School, and Gopal N. Dinesh of Lemer Public School, Triprayar. Senior girls – Sowmiya M.K of Sree Sarada Vidyalaya
Junior boys – Ananthapadmanabh D.V of Rajagiri Public School, Jyothis R of SS NSS, Harikrishnan P.M of Campion School, Lance Jimmy of Joe Mount Public School, Krishnaraj V of Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Abel Saju Chazhoor of Mathanagar Public School, Sidharth K of Vidyodaya School, and Anand M.S of Bhavan’s Adarsh Vidyalaya.
Junior girls – Amirta Vinod of Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Anita Maria Roy of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ernakulam, Faizah Shafeek of JSS International, Meenakshi Bijoy of Greets Public School, Maria Goergi of Choice School and Ann Terese Roy of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ernakulam.
All the participants were issued certificates.
