Levarht brings first Dutch Peppers into China by air

“Strong belief in Chinese future for Dutch bell peppers”

In a strong cooperation between growers, customers in China and logistics partners in both Holland and China, Levarht has supplied the first Dutch peppers to China, which the Chinese consumers could experience just 4 days after harvest.

A two week trial period had initiated in July, following an intensive period of negotiations between Chinese and Dutch authorities. During this trial period, officials of the Chinese AQSIC and the Dutch KCB inspected quality and protocols in order to establish a secure export of Dutch produce to China.

“Chinese consumers are demanding, especially on taste, food-safety, freshness and quality, and keen on pricing. Dutch peppers are grown in hi-tec glasshouses, that guarantee a tasteful, consistent and clean product, often by the use of biological crop protection and organic fertilizers,” according to a Levarth spokesperson.

“All varieties are non-GMO. From our intense cooperation with all partners in the supply chain, we are able to limit the time from “field to fork” substantially, so freshness can be guaranteed. Despite the higher cost to bring the Dutch produce to the Chinese consumers, we are able to obtain a very competitive market price for these unique products. During this trial, we have also stimulated the first consumers not only using the peppers for hot dishes, but also for cold dishes like salads or healthy snacks. And with success! This motivates us even more in trying to build the market and grow consumption together with our partners in the market. We are confident that the authorities will give us a final go and open the Chinese market as of 2017.”

The Dutch greenhouse season runs from March to November.
