PUNE: The anti-extortion cell of the city crime branch arrested a man for allegedly possessing a country-made pistol and two live cartridges worth Rs 30,000 while patrolling in MIDC Bhosari areas on Wednesday.
A team headed by assistant commissioner of police (Crime) Suresh Bhosale and police inspector Anil Patil made the arrest. The arrested suspect has been identified as Mohammed Moin Samimuddin alias Babu Khan (25) of Adarshanagar in Moshi.
He is originally from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Police have seized the firearms and ammunition and a case against Khan has been lodged with the MIDC Bhosari police station.
The suspect, according to police, had bought the weapon and ammunition from Uttar Pradesh about 10 days ago. The suspect was searching a customer for the weapon in the Pune city and was contacting individuals when police received a tip off about his venture.
Patil said that he had test fired a bullet after purchasing the weapon during a wedding at his village. “We have recovered the used cartridge from him. He recently came to Pune to sell the weapon at much higher cost. He wanted to make a good profit and to return his village,” he added.
Patil said that he was nabbed on the old Telco road in Bhosari after receiving a tip off.
