Panathinaikos faces Brondby after progressing in Europa League

Panathinaikos will play Danish side Brondby in the play-off round of the Europa League after being the only one out of three Greek sides to make it through the third round of qualifying on Thursday.

Victor Ibarbo and Marcus Berg scored the goals as Panathinaikos beat Swedish side AIK to qualify on Thursday night. The Greens had also won the first leg in Athens 1-0.

There was no such joy for AEK, though, as it went down 1-0 to famed French side St Etienne at the Olympic Stadium in Athens. AEK had given itself a great chance of causing an upset after drawing 0-0 in France but was not able to capitalize on this on home turf.

PAS Giannena was also eliminated after its 2-1 defeat to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

Panathinaikos, however, is joined in the Europa League play-off round by Olympiakos and PAOK after they were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers.

Olympiakos will take on Arouca of Portugal and PAOK face Dinamo Tibilis of Georgia.

The first leg of the ties will be played on August 18. The return will be on August 25.
