Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment and Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai on Thursday claimed that Dakshina Kannada district has received 55,000 applications – the highest under Akrama Sakrama scheme – towards regularisation of houses built on government land.

Addressing the gathering at the Janasamparka Sabhe of Mangaluru taluk organised at Rosario Cultural Hall here, Rai said, “Under section 94-C houses built in rural areas will be regularised under Land Revenue Act, while under section 94-CC it is applicable for the dwellings in urban areas.”

The minister appealed to the people to utilise the benefit as the date to submit applications under the very scheme has been extended up to October.

Saying that the district is leading in utilising the benefits of most of the government’s programmes, Rai said, “An amount of Rs 1.27 crore has been spent on the Vidyasiri scheme, while annually Rs 36 crore is being spent on two lakh beneficiaries under the Anna Bhagya. A total of 250 metric tonnes of milk powder is used for the benefit of 1.28 lakh students under Ksheera Bhagya.”

He also said that measures will be initiated to open Bapuji Seva Kendras at all gram panchayats at least from this year, while the amount has been sanctioned for the proposed Veterinary College at Koyla.

The minister promised that Janasamparka Sabhe will be held as per a fixed schedule henceforth, for the benefit of the people. Similar meetings held at Puttur and Sullia taluks in the past received overwhelming response, he added.

The authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the benefit of grievance holders.

Two separate counters had been opened to receive the grievances, while separate seating arrangements were made for the officials and the public.

Sand mining, pay hike
Later at the Janasamparka Sabhe, a section of river fishermen sought permission from the district administration for sand mining, while a home guard, who did not
turn up, had submitted a memorandum for a hike in salary.
