Kapil Sibal, former Minister of Communications and Information Technology in an interaction with media said that the people of India will show faith in the Congress again in 2019. He was confident in his belief and jibed at the government with controversial statements made by the elected representatives of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), that received flak during their two-year rule. He said that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi should have been present in the Rajya Sabha as the GST bill was taken up for discussion and later passed. He said that the Governers have to be chosen with care and should not be just RSS agents.
BJP had won the 2014 general elections with an overwhelming majority, throwing down a decade of Congress rule over the country. Congress could manage a meagre 44 seats and was diminished to have a minor presence in the assembly. Sibal believes that the people’s faith will come back to Congress by the next General elections. After BJP came to power in 2014, incidents and speaches related to communalism has had a major growth. From the likes of Sadhvi Prachi to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, statements inspiring communalism have been quite regular.
Earlier this week, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi started a campaign for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency of Varanasi.
