West Indies needed to bat out 98 overs on the final day with only six wickets remaining to salvage a highly unlikely draw at Sabina Park. Their longest innings of the series before the final day of the second Test lasted 90.2 overs. However, against all odds, West Indies batted out the entire day, scoring 340 runs and losing just two wickets, one of which came by virtue of a poor umpiring decision.

Roston Chase was the star of the show as he batted through the day and scored an unbeaten 137 in the process. He was well-supported by local boy Jermaine Blackwood (62), wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich (74) and skipper Jason Holder (64 not out). India still lead the series 1-0 with two Tests to go.

Statistical highlights of the final day's play from Jamaica:

41 Balls taken by Jermaine Blackwood to reach his fifty in the second innings. Only Viv Richards scored a fifty off fewer balls against India in Tests, off 32 balls at the same venue in 1983. Blackwood's 47-ball fifty in the first innings is the third fastest among known instances.

1 Previous instance of a batsman having a hundred-plus strike rate in each innings of a Test before Jermaine Blackwood in this Test (minimum 50 runs in each innings). Virender Sehwag scored 55 off 46 and 55 balls respectively against West Indies in Delhi in 2011.

10 years & 247 days The last time a West Indies player scored fifty or more and took a five-fer in the same Test before Roston Chase. Dwayne Bravo (64 and 6 for 84) achieved the feat against Australia in Adelaide in 2005.

144-run stand between Chase and Shane Dowrich is the third hundred-plus stand for the sixth wicket at Sabina Park since 1978. The others to do it were Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ridley Jacobs against India in 2002 and James Neesham and BJ Watling against West Indies in 2014.

4 Roston Chase became the fourth West Indian player to score a century and take five wickets in an innings in the same Test. He scored 137 in the West Indies second innings, having picked up 5 for 121.

Century and five-fer in the same Test for West Indies

6 Players scoring their maiden Test century and taking their maiden five-fer in the same Test. Chase is the first to do it in 51 years, the last one being New Zealand's Bruce Taylor in 1965.

Maiden century and five-fer in the same Test

5 Instances of players batting at five to eight all scoring fifties in the same innings. This is the first such instance involving West Indies and the third time with India at the receiving end. However, this is the only time all four went on to score more than 60. The other instances are New Zealand against India in Hamilton and Napier in 1999 and 2009 respectively, and England against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Lord's in 2011 and 2015 respectively.

2 This is the second instance of the fifth, sixth and seventh wickets registering 90-plus stands in the same innings. The only other instance also happened between the same sides in Port of Spain in 1971 when West Indies scored 177, 94 and 93 respectively for the fifth, sixth and seventh wickets.

137* by Chase is the fourth-highest for a West Indies player batting at number six or lower against India. Clive Lloyd (161*), Basil Butcher (142) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (140) are the ones to score more than him.

22 Sixes hit in the entire match - 14 by West Indies and eight by India. It is the joint-most in a Test in West Indies, alongside 22 in the Test between the hosts and South Africa in Basseterre in 2010.

5 Instances of West Indies saving a match after conceding a 300-plus first-innings lead. Out of the five instances, three came against India - in Delhi in 1979 and in Gros Islet in 2006 and this game.

West Indies salvaging a draw after conceding 300+ first-innings lead

15 Test matches at Sabina Park since the last drawn game. The last draw here came in 1998 between West Indies and England when the match was suspended after 10.1 overs because of a dangerous pitch. Excluding that match, the last draw also came against India in 1997.

Instances of India winning more than one Test match in a series in West Indies. Also, none of the captains has won more than one Test for India in the Caribbean.
