Gujarat ‘Women-only’ industrial park: 76 plots allotted to entrepreneurs at Sanand

The first set of plots have been allotted to 76 women entrepreneurs in Gujarat’s first “women-only” industrial park at Sanand, near Ahmedabad, Gujarat government sources said Wednesday. “We had shortlisted a total of about 400 applications. After scrutiny we have allotted 76 of the total 208 plots within the park. These allotted plots measure between 500-1000 square metres,” said D Thara, the vice-chairperson and MD of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) that has developed this park on 18.3 hectares of land in Sanand-II Industrial Estate.

The agency received about 800-odd applications of which 400 were shortlisted. “All those who have been allotted plots in the first phase are non-polluting industries,” Thara added without divulging details. The allotment of the plots shall be on a lease of about 99 years.

Last year, GIDC had invited online applications from women entrepreneurs for setting up industrial units at this estate. The park which is expected to be developed as a hub for MSMEs dedicated to women entrepreneurs have been provided with basic infrastructure facilities like roads, streetlights, power supply and water distribution network.

“About 80-90 members of our association had applied for plots at this industrial estate. Some of us have received the allotment letters. Most of those who have applied for plots have proposed projects in textiles, food processing, engineering and other sectors,” said Grishma Trivedi, the vice-president of Vibrant Women Industrial Networking Association and the past-president of GCCI women’s wing. “This park has been developed on a fast-track basis by CM Anandiben Patel,” said Trivedi who has applied for a plot to set up a medical textiles project.
