Seven-year-old run over by truck

He was going home with his mother on a two-wheeler after school

A seven-year-old boy, who was returning home from school with his mother on a scooter, was run over by a truck in HSR Layout around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

The deceased, Rounak, was the younger son of Devendra Kumar, a cab driver with an IT company, and Jyothi, a housewife. A source in the police said, “We learned that his mother would pick him up from school every day.”

On Wednesday, Jyothi had picked up Rounak from his school. They were returning to their house in Kaikondrahalli. The boy was riding pillion. According to witnesses, the truck was coming from the direction of Doddakanahalli and was heading towards the city. It knocked down the scooter.

“Rounak slipped under the wheels of the truck. Jyothi fell on the other side and escaped with minor injuries,” said a police officer.

Mob vandalises vehicle

The driver fled from the spot. Irate passers-by and motorists surrounded the truck and vandalised it.

The HSR Layout traffic police have seized the vehicle and are searching for the driver.
