I want to create a space of my own: Allu Sirish

Allu Sirish, who will be seen in Srirastu Subhamastu after a two-year gap, says that the break did him good.

Allu Sirish, who has been away from the silver screen for two years, is making a comeback with Parasuram’s (Bujji) Srirastu Subhamastu, his third film. Last seen in Kotha Janta, he explains the reason for the gap.

“I took a break because I had a knee operation in 2014 which required four-five months of rest. I was looking for a good subject when I met Parasuram,” says Sirish.

The injury happened during the shooting of his debut film Gauravam in 2013. “I took it very lightly as I thought it’s just a bruise, but after Kotha Janta, the pain got worse and I couldn’t even walk. When I consulted the doctor, he said it needed a surgery,” explains Sirish, who feels the gap was good as it actually helped him grow as an actor.

“I watched Solo and Anjaneyulu and liked the way Parasuram handles human emotions. I wanted to work with him and when I contacted him, he too was interested to work with me. He narrated a subject and it took five months to develop it as a good story. The movie has a huge cast and the director has created space for all the characters,” he explains why it took so much time.

“It’s a great working experience for me with the presence of great actors like Rao Ramesh and Prakash Raj. Rao Ramesh was very keen when the director narrated a scene or dialogue to him; he behaved like it was his first film. He always listens to the director with dedication and concentration. I’m lucky to have worked with some good actors and director Parasuram, who can mould an actor into the character,” he says.

He is really impressed by his co-star Lavanya Tripathi: “She is very professional and never tries to ‘act’; so realistic is her performance,” he says. On his character, Sirish says, “My role is that of a happy-go-lucky guy who never carries baggage of the past with him. It’s more like being myself in some ways too.”

So, will he be wearing the producer’s hat like his dad Allu Aravind and brother Allu Arjun? Sirish says being a producer was boring. “A producer’s job is not a creative one and it has not excited me. I can’t handle financial dealings. More than that, I don’t like to instruct people, so I won’t take up producing,” Sirish reveals.

His heart lies in acting. “Initially, I wanted to do character roles and then as the lead. Now, I want to do some boy-next-door characters. I want to create a space of my own without being influenced by any. I grew up watching Chiranjeevi garu’s films and my brother Arjun’s films, so there might be some influence, but when it comes to editing and dubbing, I am myself,” he says.

Sirish was last year seen sporting a six-pack physique. So, will we get a glimpse of his toned body in Srirastu Subhamastu? He laughs, “This film has no action scenes; so there is no need to show my six-pack body. It was just that I had a lot of time after the surgery and I worked out with tips from the Internet,” he says.
