With Rs 12.65 crore for Padmavati, is Deepika Padukone the highest paid female actor?

The xXx actor is quite possibly the first female actor to break the Rs 10-crore barrier.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali might have finally found his Padmavati in actor Deepika Padukone, however, the Saawariya director is going to have to shell out a bomb to bring her to set. This will be Deepika Padukone's third consecutive film with the director, after Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.

And if reports by a city-based daily are to be believed, Deepika will be paid Rs 12.65 crore for her latest film, making her the first female actor to break out of the Rs 10-crore barrier. The actor will shortly be seen making her Hollywood debut in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage alongside Vin Diesel.

The Cocktail actor has steadily increased her price, which has also gone on to reflect her standing in the industry. So while she got paid Rs 1 crore for Ram-Leela in 2013, which was later hiked to Rs 7 crore for Bajirao Mastani in 2015, and that brings us to the current figure of Rs 12.65 crore for Padmavati. Seven of her last nine films have been a hit at the box office, showing impeccable consistency in a volatile industry.

Meanwhile, director Bhansali has been in talks with the actor to shape the character, which she is reportedly very happy with. There have been a lot of names doing the rounds of who will play the role of Padmavati's husband, Alauddin Khilji - from Vicky Kaushal to Shahid Kapoor to even Ranveer Singh, however Bhansali has remained mum on the subject. Padmavati is scheduled for release on December 17, 2017.
