BHOPAL: In a major decision reflecting zero tolerance in the implementation of beneficiary schemes, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday suspended five senior officers, including an IAS officer, and shunted out the municipal commissioner of Ratlam for dereliction of duty.
Immediately after it, Chouhan called a crucial meeting of his cabinet ministers to enforce strict measures for implementing government schemes for poor and underprivileged in order to ensure good governance.
The action seems to be an outcome of Chouhan's recent meeting with RSS functionaries on good governance and implementation of welfare schemes. The Sangh Parivar expressed displeasure over high-handedness of the officials in the execution of government policies and redressal of complaints in the backward areas. RSS leaders also sought action from the government in case dereliction of duty is found in these areas.
The result was seen during Samadhan Online, an interactive grievance redress system, where chief minister Chouhan found discrepancies in the implementation of policies and solving the problems of common people. He first suspended deputy secretary Prakash Jangde, who was earlier collector of Katni, for forced closure of a case where the problem of the affected person was not solved. Jangde was in news sometime back for slapping an executive engineer of PWD in Datia. After the controversy, he was shifted to Katni in the same capacity, but was again shunted out soon.
In another case of Seoni district where irregularities were unearthed in the distribution of subsidy on tube-wells, Chouhan suspended three officials including an additional director and two deputy directors of the agriculture department. The chief minister also took action against additional collector of Betul for allowing disposal of tribal land to non-tribals, besides transferring the municipal commissioner of Ratlam, Somnath Jhariya.
Sources in the party said after the meeting Chouhan called a meeting of his cabinet colleagues in the secretariat to ensure early redressal of grievances. He also instructed the ministers on transfer policy as transfers will be allowed within the district by 15 of this month. "Ministers were asked to prepare their progress report every three months and ensure implementation of central schemes in the interest of the public. But, this time what chief minister said seemed more forceful and committed," said a senior minister.
