Nielsens: Democratic convention, 'Sharknado'

Biting. Syfy's Sharknado: The 4th Awakens drew 2.8 million same-day viewers Sunday, matching last year's audience for the third installment. CW's revival of MADtv opened with a solid 1.9 million Tuesday, while ABC's Boston EMS started a second season with 4.5 million.

Dems numbers. The Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia closed Thursday with 33.7 million viewers across 11 networks (including PBS) after 10 p.m. ET, when Hillary Clinton accepted the nomination. That marked a decline, for the first time last week, from the previous week's Republican convention, which nabbed 35 million on its final night.

Finale fever. AMC's Preacher closed out its first season with a slightly elevated 1.7 million same-day viewers Sunday, when Showtime's political series The Circus ended its season with a low 142,000 and Next Food Network Star crowned a winner with 2 million, down from last year's 2.8 million.
