FIR against AT Group chairman
BHUBANESWAR: Two days after Artha Tatwa chit fund company's CMD Pradeep Sethy allegedly attempted suicide in Jharpada Special Jail here over poor medical facilities, the prison superintendent R N Swain on Monday lodged a complaint with police alleging he breached the jail discipline.
Quoting the complaint, an officer of Laxmisagar police station said, "Sethy disturbed peace and violated discipline of the jail.
He even obstructed the government authorities from discharging their duty." However, the complaint was silent on the alleged suicide bid by Sethy. No case was registered till filing of the report.
While Swain refused to comment, ADG (prisons) Arun Ray said it was necessary to inform the local police about Sethy's indiscipline. The local police will take a call on registering a case, Ray told TOI. He, however, kept quiet as to why the jail did not mention anything in the complaint about Sethy's alleged suicide bid.
On Sunday, Sethy's wife Kavita alleged he injured himself on Saturday night out of frustration over poor medical service in the jail. Sethy reportedly banged his head on a wall and scratched his left wrist with an iron plate.
Ray denied medical negligence. "We took him to the Capital Hospital for treatment whenever he complained of any health problems," Ray said. Sethy, the prime accused in AT Group scam, is lodged in Jharpada jail since his arrest in 2013. He is accused of cheating investors of nearly Rs 500 crore.
