The 13th edition will take place September 10 in Gatanga, Murang’a County.
NAIROBI, Kenya, August 2 – This year’s UAP Old Mutual Ndakaini Half Marathon will see elite runners have their names displayed on their race bibs in place of numbers at the 13th edition scheduled for September 10 in Gatanga, Murang’a County.
The usually serene Ndakaini trading center in the outskirts of Nairobi will be thronged by over 3,000 runners as organizers seek to better the marathon’s standards by introducing an elite start point.
Participants will tackle a course that will take them around the scenic Ndakaini Dam that lies about 80 kilometers from Nairobi City at an altitude of 2,040 meters above sea level with this year’s theme being ‘Run For Life In Good Company’.
“We continuously seek to improve the marathon standards each year, with a view to attaining international standards. As is the Group’s practice we are continuously looking to innovate in all our activities. Two years ago, we were the first to introduce the electronic timing system using RFID chip,” UAP Group MD General Insurance, James Wambugu stated.
“The chips have proved to be tremendously accurate in time monitoring. The race will start and end on the road as implemented last year to improve the terrain for the runners,” the MD added.
As its tradition, the race will feature the main 21km race, 10km and 5km with registration going for Sh 1000 for individuals and Sh50, 000 for corporate teams

The Ndakaini Dam supplies over 70 per cent of Nairobi’s water and is an important installation for Nairobi residents. It is an all-inclusive marathon which brings together persons of all ages and walks of life.
